I have over 40 years
experience as a surveyor with Ordnance Survey, resurveying and revising large scale maps and associated data at 1:1250, 1:2500
and 1:10,000 scales, including surveys for Her Majesty's Land Registry.
During this time I was seconded to the government of the Republic of Indonesia as an
adviser on Survey Standards and Validation, and as a trainer of Balinese government surveyors in the revision of large scale
mapping by ground graphic survey methods.
My experience included the interpretation of aerial photography
for survey and mapping purposes.
I was later employed by Astrium, (formerly
Infoterra Limited), part of European Aeronautic Defence and Space, (EADS), and now part of Airbus, on the
interpretation of satellite imagery and remote sensing data for the mapping of world-wide areas of conflicts and natural disasters.
I retired from Ordnance Survey holding the
post of Chief Surveyor and Production Group Manager for Leicestershire, Derbyshire and Rutland.
I was the lead member of a team of Expert Witnesses trained by Bond Solon Training to represent Ordnance
Survey in the civil courts in litigation over map interpretation of boundaries and Rights of Way. This
work involved investigations and research, the writing of expert reports, and verbal evidence in the witness box.
I have also advised the police and HM Customs on behalf of Ordnance Survey in criminal cases.
I am fully conversant with the requirements of the Civil Procedure
Rules Part 35 (Experts and Assessors) and the associated Practice Directions and Codes of Practice.
I am a vetted member listed in the UK Register of Expert Witnesses.
Ordnance Survey has withdrawn from corporate involvement in this field of work and I am consequently available to undertake Expert Witness and consultancy work as an individual.
